India's war on smuggling continues: Gold worth Rs 10 lakh seized

The 24 Karat pure gold was concealed in a portable juicer

Alert Indian Customs officials continue to foil the nefarious designs of smugglers. The recent catch was gold worth Rs 10 lakh concealed in a portable juicer at the Chennai airport. 

On Tuesday (June 15), based on intelligence, Arulraj Subramanian (41) of Cuddalore was intercepted at the airport exit. He had arrived from Dubai by Emirates flight EK-544.

On the examination of his baggage, a portable juicer was found among his personal belongings. The juicer appeared to be heavy and on opening, a cylindrical gold piece was found concealed in the motor. Gold weighing 200 grams of 24 Karat purity valued at Rs 10 lakh was recovered and seized under the Customs Act. Further investigation is underway.
